Court case that opened the lid on Kidero net worth
A court ordered Dr Kidero was to pay tax amounting to KES 427,269,795.00 to KRA. This ruling overturned a Tax Tribunal’s decision. Dr Kidero had argued that the monies in his accounts were part of funds raised for political campaigns.
He claimed to have agreed with the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes that such monies would not attract tax. However, it was difficult to establish the portion of funds raised for politics and the portion accruing from businesses, since they were all deposited in the same accounts.
