Reports are emerging that Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony Akumu could be warming up his way to Tanzanian football giants Yanga. The towering 28-year old midfielder currently features for Kaizer Chiefs.
Tanzanian news outlet Championi quoted Akumu saying that he was open to a move if the offer was right, from Yanga or any other club. The link to the 27-time Mainland League champions was precipitated by a birthday best wishes message to the midfielder by a club official.
Hersi Said who is involved with player acquisitions at Yanga and is also a Director at GSM which is the club’s sponsor took to Instagram to relay his message. He put up a picture of Akumu to accompany the message.
In football, dalliance with senior club officials is always a hint of things to come.
“I know Hersi Said well and I have no problem if he gives me an offer to join Yanga SC,” Akumu said. He added that he didn’t want to stay in South Africa for a long time.
Anthony Teddy Akumu joined South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in January 2020 on a three-year deal. He had earlier featured for Zambian side ZESCO before leaving as a free agent at the end of 2019. He has also played for Sudan’s Al Khartoum after leaving Gor Mahia a frustrated man.
Former Harambee Stars head coach Adel Amrouche had compared Akumu to France and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
